MY REVIEW

I was really intrigued about this book after reading the blurb and I couldn't wait to get into it. I love mafia romance especially if it's dark and gritty and this one is wickedly dark and taboo. Isabella Starling sure knows how to write steamy scenes, even when there is "torture" involved.
The book started out really promising with Father Amadeo stalking Carlotta (the daughter of the most fierce man in Malborne, mafia capo Massimo Tomassi) and then kidnapping her. He is out for revenge and won't stop until he punishes Carlotta for her father's sins. The interactions between the two of them are really intense, some of the scenes quite harsh (there is physical torture involved) and the chemistry is quite palpable. The secondary characters were also interesting, but they weren't presented as much as I would have liked.
The story is told from multiple POV, it was angsty and suspenseful and the plot had a lot of potential in the beginning but I feel like the action developed too rapidly and it didn't leave enough room for more backstory. Everything happened so fast that it was a bit hard to grasp what was happening and really savor the plot twists. I did love the epilogue a lot, it was really heartwarming.
Overall I liked this book because of the themes presented and the dark elements and I'm looking forward to reading more stories by this author.
