MY REVIEW
My Rating: ★★★★★
OMG, this book was a rollercoaster. I had a feeling it was going to be intense but damn if I was prepared for the intensity of Becker Hunt. I love that Jodi has written this story in a darker tone, it reminded me so much of the atmosphere from This Man series.
“I can’t fear the unknown. Some things you can’t control. Some things you can’t prepare for.”
“I can’t fear the unknown. Some things you can’t control. Some things you can’t prepare for.”
Eleonore moves to London to start a new life. She finally has the opportunity to be independent, to escape the small town she's in lived all her life and an make it on her own in the big city. She manages to get the job of her dreams in the Antiques Industry and she's determined to be successful but what Eleonore isn't prepared to do is deal with Becker Hunt. Her new boss is insanely gorgeous and equally infuriating. He constantly challenges her, he pushes her buttons like no other man before him and that only aggravates Eleonore and makes her want to fight back but there's also hunger in Becker's eyes and every time their gazes lock she feels on fire. There's a blazing attraction between them, but Eleonore must keep her distance from Becker because her job at the Sanctuary is the most important thing.
“…you can tell a lot from a man’s looks and how he carries them. Your boss carries his looks like a weapon.”
I love the protagonists, Eleonore and Becker have insane chemistry. The constant banter between them is entertaining. She's a strong-headed woman, smart, beautiful, loyal and a kind soul. I liked her determination to resist Becker's charm, even if she was kidding herself by denying the attraction. And Becker is this broody, arrogant, sexy as sin and notorious playboy. His reputation as a heartbreaker precedes him but he's also the best art dealer in the world so in Eleonore's eyes that makes him fascinating.
"He’s suggestive, tempting, and has the power of seduction down to a fine art. And he manages to be a total prick during the process.
The storyline is shrouded in a veil of mystery, with secrets waiting to be uncovered. The plot is gripping and sparks the reader's imagination with vivid descriptions of beautiful pieces of art and the enchanting British posh society. I found myself reading way past my bedtime, I was glued to the pages and the cliffhanger at the end made my jaw drop. I need answers and can't wait to see what happens next. I recommend this book!
