Wow... Sophie Lark what have you done!? Hook, line and sinker... I'm totally addicted to this series and need more. Stolen Heir is a wonderful modern retelling of Beauty and The Beast combined with a dark and thrilling mafia story. The writing style is easy to follow and entertaining and I enjoyed every word.
This story follows Miko and Nessa. She's part of the Irish Mafia, the baby of the family, always sheltered from the vicious world around her. She's a dreamer, a ballerina, she's kind and gentle and radiates goodness. But she's not blind to the things that happen around her, she knows how ruthless the mafia families can be. And Miko is part of one of those families, he was adopted into the polish mafia and after the Italians kill his father, he swears to bring down those involved and take over the city. He wants to make them suffer and what better way to do it than by taking one of their own in return. Miko's plan seems fail-proof, kidnap Nessa, bring down the Irish and the Italians, conquer Chicago. What he doesn't expect is for Nessa to capture his heart and bring him to his knees.
The story is told in dual POV, which I always enjoy. The action is fairly-paced and the plot is well developed. Angst, violence, dangerous situations were all woven perfectly into the storyline. The intensity and chemistry between the protagonists are off the charts. Their characters are brilliantly portrayed. Miko is the kind of man you want to run away from but the magnetic pull of his persona keeps you captivated, and Nessa is sweet and innocent but she's not a pushover. While she's a captive in Miko's mansion she finds her inner strength and the freedom to become a better version of herself. She sees beyond the tough facade Miko puts up, she can peer deep into his soul and when she fights him rather than cower in his presence, Miko knows he has met his perfect match.
This book is definitely dark and gritty, but also sexy and captivating and I highly recommend it to everyone who loves mafia romance. I can't wait for the next instalment in the series!
