Man in Charge is the first instalment in the duet with the same name, and it got me hooked from the first page. What starts out as a modern Cinderella story rapidly turns into a smouldering hot and cleverly written office romance.

The protagonists were dynamic and well presented, and I really believed in their passionate magnetism. The moment Tess and Scott met, I could see fireworks going off between those two. Their banter was so good and their chemistry was palpable throughout the entire book. Scott Sebastian is the full alpha male package. He's insanely hot and sexy as sin, and, man, does he have a dirty mouth. Plus, he’s got this bossy, domineering vibe going on, that makes Tess melt in the best ways. But what I liked most about him is that he doesn't give off that cocky, self-centred attitude you would expect from a billionaire. His father groomed him from a young age to take charge of the family business, but that doesn't mean he likes it. And Tess is a hardworking, resilient and passionate young woman, who will take on any challenge when it comes to her job and helping the charity she strongly believes in.

The story is told from the heroine's POV and the action is fast-paced but with enough room for character and plot development. Things between Tess and Scot started off with a lie, and it was just a matter of time before everything came tumbling down. What I didn't expect was for Scott to have a secret of his own and that jaw-dropping cliffhanger... I'm also intrigued by the secondary characters, Tessa's friends both have unique personalities and they add salt and pepper to the story. Can't wait to see how things will turn out in the next instalment.

Laurelin Paige's writing style is captivating, and as always she's able to deliver an engaging and absorbing read. I would definitely recommend this to everyone who enjoys contemporary romance.
