Cala Riley have knocked it out of the park with this steamy, suspenseful, heart-gripping and entertaining first book in The Syndicates series. Matteo has irrevocably stolen my heart and has set the bar high for future book boyfriends :))
I was hooked from the very beginning when we meet Vanessa, who is homeless and running from a street thug. She's been living a tough life as an orphan, moving from one foster home to another and then on the street since she was sixteen. She's a survivor, she never lets her guard down and can fend for herself, but the moment she runs into Matteo things take an unexpected turn for her. There's an inexplicable attraction between them, and the dark and handsome mafioso feels an acute urge to protect her. Their relationship starts off unconventional (with Matteo kidnapping her and all that) but getting to know Mateo turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to Vanessa.
These two were perfect for each other. Matteo was swoon-worthy, dark and delicious!! As a mafia man, he was to be ruthless and calculated, but he also had a heart of gold and a deep yearning to find someone to share his life with. And Vanessa was a tough cookie, bright, feisty and challenging, though naïve in some regards. I enjoyed their banter, but also their easy conversations after she loosened up and got comfortable around Matteo.
Told in dual POV, the story unfolds at a steady-paced, leaving room for character development. The plotline is suspenseful enough to keep you on your toes, and the sexy scenes are over the charts hot. It was an addictive read that had me reading way past my bedtime.
