How can I resist a Beauty and the Beast retelling!? Especially if it's a dark contemporary romance from one of my favourite authors. This book ticked all the boxes for me. It put the perfect twist on my favourite fairytale and offered a seductive, steamy and heart-gripping story. We have the jaded hero who has a dark secret and is out for revenge, the feisty strong-headed heroine who will risk everything for her family's wellbeing, and the villain who in this case turned out to be a character I was familiar with from another series.
Leo is known as the Beast of Bishop's Landing, he's broody, vicious and feared by everyone in the city. He's the epitome of a bad guy, and he's out for revenge. His family and the Constantine's have been enemies for many years and now, a perfect opportunity to destroy them has arisen and he won't hesitate to take it. That's when Haley comes into play. She shows up at his mansion to barter a deal for her father's invention and, ultimately, his life. She's a Constantine, and Leo wants to make them suffer, but that doesn't deter Haley from steeling her spine and making a deal with the dangerously handsome beast in front of her.
I loved every interaction between the protagonists; they are complex and well presented. The suspenseful moments, the angst, the drama, the steamy encounters (the scene in the library.. scorching hot!!!), were all woven perfectly into one enthralling story. And holy hell, that ending, I need the next book ASAP. This book was a fantastic opening to the Secret Beast trilogy.
